Our Treatment Approaches

Our Treatment Approaches

Our approach is founded on the evidence-based practices of Applied Behavior Analysis, and aims to teach children meaningful and functional skills across a variety of developmental areas, including language and communication, social, self-help, motor, cognitive, play skills and more. We adopt a non-aversive approach to address and reduce challenging and maladaptive behaviors. Our goal is to promote a learning environment that is both positive and engaging to your child.

Every child is different and our clinical team works closely with your child and family to develop an individualized treatment plan to meet the unique needs of your child and family. Our clinical staff receive diverse training in multiple treatment approaches, including:

Naturalistic Teaching

Early Start Denver Model

Pivotal Response Training

Discrete Trial Teaching

Social Skills Training

Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Behavioral Skill Training

Verbal Behavior

Direct Instruction

Your child’s treatment will be carefully documented, and data will be collected on a regular basis allowing ongoing progress monitoring and program evaluation. We adopt a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach, and will work closely with your child’s other service providers to ensure your child is consistently and effectively supported in all environments.

Our Big E's Core Teaching Values

Effective & Efficient Treatment Approaches

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) present unique learning needs and require highly specialized and individualized treatment. Behavioral treatment based on the science of applied behavior analysis (ABA) has garnered the most empirical validation and is considered the standard of care for the treatment of ASD. Sum of Learning provides treatment that is evidence-based, and is guided and supported by empirical data. Our clinical team includes both doctoral and master level board certified behavior analysts, and ABA therapists, who are trained rigorously in the application of ABA.

Many learners with ASD require high numbers of learning opportunities to acquire new skills. Increasing teaching efficiency is as equally important as providing effective intervention in order to teach the most information effectively in the shortest amount of time and with the least teaching opportunities. Our Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Chung, has conducted research to investigate and identify efficient teaching strategies for children with ASD. She is proud to share her research and clinical experiences to her team through ongoing professional development.

Enjoyable & Engaging Teaching Activities

Learning does not have to be stressful. Children learn best through play. Our clinical staff are engaging, and they sure know how to create and embed valuable teaching opportunities in fun, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate play activities.

Embracing Individual and Family Differences

Children with ASD are children first. We embrace their differences, abilities, and uniqueness. We support their needs and celebrate their success, regardless of intellect or background. We believe all children, with or without disabilities, have the capacity to learn, grow, and succeed. Our team strives to assist each child in achieving measurable and positive outcomes in all areas of life.

Family involvement plays an integral part of every child’s learning experience. We value every parent’s input and work collaboratively with each family to develop an individualized treatment plan that will tailor the unique needs of both the child and the family. Sum of Learning recognizes and embraces the differences each family brings to us. We are proud to serve families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and we strive to improve the quality of life for you, your child, and your family.
